I have a Motorola MotoG4. I can see the Spirit in the list of wifi networks, it shows 'connected / no internet'.

But when I open the Spirit settings app it will not connect. The devices pulldown only has one device called WIFI [192.168.4.1].

I can connect using my laptop and a regular browser - so it would appear the WiFi link is working.

'Any ideas? Maybe the channel? (can't see any way to change it though)

Hello,

maybe your Smartphone has disabled DHCP. Please verify that your phone will receive IP Address from the Wifi-Link automatically.
It should be all identical to your computer.

As I mention in my original post - the IP address appears in the pull-down box, so yes it is getting it automatically.

the phone connects just fine to my regular home WiFi. I cannot see any system setting for DHCP but the evidence would suggest it is enabled.

The IP Address is not visible in the Android app - there you can see just configured address to which the Android app will try to connect.

Both phone and Wifi-Link have own IP Address, Wifi-Link has 192.168.4.1 but if your phone will have address from a wrong range then it will not work even that it is connected.
For this reason I recommend to verify what address it is. It is not 192.168.4.1. By checking wireless connection settings you should see it there.
Maybe your phone has enabled some kind of VPN or other third party connection.

I see. I thought it was getting the IP.

What was happening is that the phone was not staying connected. It required confirmation to remain connected with no internet access. Once it was confirmed that I wanted to remain connected I was then able to connect in the Spirit Settings app.

So the two red herrings were that it showed 'connected' in the WiFi menu and that the Spirit app showed the IP.

It appears to work properly now, many thanks :-)
