Great info and idea. I will rebind with a Spektrum sat and report.

My Pro unit had bound true Spektrum DSM2 Satellites. It had the same issue with channel 8 (aux3) non-functional for RTT.
Just as a test, on the bench, without screwing up anything, can you not temporarily setup Spirit to use Channel 8 for, say, gyro gain, so that you can easily see in the Diagnostic screen if Spirit is actually receiving signal?
I know you already kinda decided that Spirit does not receive it, but it is just to exclude that this depends on the fact that you are using it for RTT.

Good idea Coco. I will set Gyro Gain on the left side of the screen to Aux3 (chan8) and see what it shows. If that works, then it pretty much nails down that the issue is in RTT and Aux3. If it doesn't work, then I guess we are back where we are now.
I will report.
A final test would be to save my setup to a file(s). Then connect the 8 channel DSM2 rx I have to the Spirit Pro and try feeding Aux3 via the wire into the Spirit. Can I run a normal servo wire from the RX to the Spirit Pro that can be identified as Aux3?

Here is a link showing gyro (Chan5) operating a RTT option. https://goo.gl/photos/dXq8zMmYQ1KLFDVw9
Unfortunately, Aux3 (Channel 8) is not assignable to any controls on the left panel of the software, only the RTT options. See image: https://goo.gl/photos/HRQRFTgtcyEggCcc8
This seems like a dead-end at this point. Maybe it will be addressed in a future update, but for now I'm not worrying about it any longer.

Well, just realized that when you tried with official Spektrum sats, you said DSM2... I am pretty sure i read that when used as "sat only" they only support 7 channels...
And, for what I know about those clone Lemons, it could be the same there.

Coco, I see from your signature you use a dx8. Are you using RTT with it now on your Spirit?
Hello,
today we will check it with DSMX and possibly with DSM2 satellites.

Yes, I have a DX8 G1 and couple Spirits with genuine Spektrum DSMX sats and did use RTT. Not sure if with channel 7 or 8 though.
I can try later at home.
