As per the title, just be aware of the risk.. of cause better than crashing but I would never push my heli that hard .. it really goes haywire..
Luckily I had a spare in my inventory - but the smell my god it’s horrendous
Burned a servo during bec testing
Hello,
oh, that is not good.
If the servo is fine and it is not binding anywhere it should never burn.
The only case when you can burn the servo is when configured frequency is too high. That applies primarily to an analogue servos or servos with DC brushed motor - these were popular years ago. But todays coreless and brushless servos must handle it even without being warm.
When flying load is at least 3 times higher.
I hope that you discovered some issue in the servo and it save the model.
Can you let me know what servo it was, please?

The voltage should not be a problem. according to a data sheet the servo could do upto 8.4V
I assume that the servo had a problem already and died during this test or there was a mechanical issue which blocked the servo and burned it.
this BEC test behaviour should not harm any healthy Servo

Erik
lets put it this way
if the servo burnt in flight, then you had lost all the model not just one servo

To be honest I’m impressed that my heli is still flying as I have crashed it so many times and least summer I landed it in a swimming pool, but I flew again the next day with a new esc..
That being said, I would never run the servos so hard when flying.. but maybe that will change now with the rescue function as I hope to be able to push my heli as hard as I do in the simulator
So I’ll rephrase - Spirit thanks for saving my heli
