This is something I have always wondered, and have managed to work around, but it's still really not ideal. Or perhaps I am missing something.
What the Spirit appears to be missing is the ability to reduce the max cyclic throws at the extremes of collective. In the Spartan FBL this is a function called cyclic ring taper, you can set your max throws at 0 collective, and then reduce it at high and low collective.
I recently got a 2nd hand heli with a VControl and Neo and can see that it has a significant amount of cyclic reduction at high and low collective.
This would intuitively seem like a very good feature. You can freely set high cyclic throws in the range you mostly use them, but can still prevent binding or some other mechanical limits. Now, with some helis you may not have any issues, you may be able to set 10 degrees of cyclic and 13 degrees of collective and you're good at any position. But not all helis will allow this (hence the existence of a taper feature on other FBL units).
So am I missing a setting somewhere else that does a similar thing?
Cyclic ring taper / reduction ?
This is a general question, and is not specific to a particular heli or Spirit setup. This is a feature on other FBL units that appears to be lacking on the Spirit.
Although, it is more pertinent on helis with linear servo setups that use a rack and pinion style setup because the geometry is no longer reducing cyclic mechanically at high and low collective. Another approach, which Rotorflight has, is that collective pitch and cyclic combined has a limit you can set.
In my case, setting up a TDR2 is where this would be very useful, but it's something I would use on other helis as well.
