Different foam is not needed, only requirement is that the unit should be mounted precisely.
The unit can fly well even without any foam.
If you will not be able to observe any difference then we can be sure it is just something wrong on the helicopter and can be solved.

This shouldn't be a problem. All my helicopters are tilted even more without any issue.

OK. It does not matter where the unit is, it must be only perpendicular to all axes.

Ok, all set back up. I switched it around so the wires are facing to the main shaft instead this time. It's lined up the best I can get it. You can see the reference line in the picture.
We will see how it goes when I fly next.
I'm assuming I don't have to reset the servo subtrim? Or do I?
I changed all the values that needed to be changed for proper compensation of the unit.
I'm going to leave the unit off the G570 till we test this one, incase that one is defective.

If your servos are connected to same positions in the unit then you only have to change Sensor/Gyro compensation direction.
You can also check your piro optimization to be sure all is correct.
