If you dont proceed according what manufacturer is saying then it mean you are trying to be more clever then they are.
Then you can't be surprised something is not working perfectly.
Your smartphone is not used to control any aircraft

There any difference will not cause any harm if it is more or less 10°. Also more precise apps are able to download calibration data from the internet for location obtained from GPS.
With drones, including from DJI you will be often prompted to do new calibration when changing location.
Manual has recommendations and all instructions for a very good purposes. Not for making things more complicated, but to make them working in the most possible circumstances.
Then there will be only few questions if people will do everything right.

Dr.Fleming
you will be surprised how much can change the earth magnetic field by few km
if you look at charts showing isogonic lines following magnetic declination
btw magnetic field don't change only when you move
but also as the time go by

Correct magnetic field's are everywhere, but the North, South, East, and West, as far
that I know , has not change in the last hundreds years !

earth magnetic field is constantly moving
magnetic north and south pole make no exception
west and east are only a geographical convention
there are no west and east magnetic poles

hello Tomas !
Calibration is always required and highly recommended as described in the manual.
With GeoLink v2 - when calibration process is running green light is ON and blue light is blinking during movement.
When it is finished, green light will be turned off while blue led will start to flash periodically.
Calibration itself is very same as with v1. But v1 had only one LED.
that is what I am going to do , Thanks for the detail info . your advice is priceless after all you designed the geolink . Other people who know more than you maybe they should design their own .

HobbyWing ESC fan is affecting all sensors, including all Spirit units and other FBL units. For this reason we do not recommend to use it, especially if using Rescue and Stabilisation modes.
