Hi

I have installed the red spirit unit on my Trex 500X and it has been doing a great job until now. I did all the setup correctly and already flew nearly 3h without any problem. I also tested the rescue function several times, both the rescue from normal as well as from inverted flight worked perfectly fine ... until today:
When i triggered rescue for test reasons (heli was horizontal) the heli suddenly went straight to the ground. Luckily i was able to abort the rescue function and managed to safe the heli about 10cm above ground.
When i landed to check, what was going on, i realized that the swashplate really shifted to the wrong direction, when triggering rescue.
After unplugging the battery and connecting again, to reinitialize the unit, it worked correctly again.

Any ideas, what could have caused the problem ?

Hi,

that is very sad, unfortunately there are few possible reasons why this could happen.

Please check this page:
http://manual.spirit-system.com/index.p ... ise_Rescue

If the problem occured then it is likely that with increasing flight time it will happen again - but it is possible to safely find if the problem is still there or is resolved as described at the page.

Please let me know if it helped you.

In the article you linked, I actually can find one possible reason for the rescue failure.
About a minute after the unit was initialized, i turned the heli upside down, because i wanted to check something in the main gear. I presume, that this caused the unit to shift to the wrong direction.
What unsettles me is the fact, that the unit was already initialized and it still caused the problem.
This would mean, that if i takeoff shortly after the unit is ready and immediately do a flip to inverted, it could cause the rescue function to not work properly ?

Anyways for my future flights i will always check rescue function before taking off and let some time pass between initializing and taking off.

You are right that turning the model before flight can cause such problem.

When flying it is very different and of course this will not cause any problem when doing any flips. But at the ground the unit is learning correct horizontal position. If model is laying at side or upside down then it could become new horizontal position.

So it is just important to not leave the model in these positions for longer time before flight.
