I have been flying my 250 with the spirit but have not setup rescue. I went through yesterday and set it up and was wondering what is the best way on the ground to test if it is functioning correctly?

Hit the button and make sure you get positive pitch. Please MAKE SURE piro optimisation is set correctly in the software it seems to be the cause of most failures.
3 things I HIGHLY recommend you do before using it in the air.
1. Check to make sure the pitch goes positive when on the ground. (If it goes negative you simply move the pitch bar to negative in the stabi screen)
2. Ensure your Piro optimization is correct. If you have been flying and it had no weird behaviors it should be ok.
3. Ensure your BEC can handle it. The majority of rescue failures are from insufficient BECs. One easy way to check this is to put your rescue to 100% pitch then slide your collective to full negative. Now activate rescue on and off very quickly for about 30 seconds. If the controller shuts off or resets at any point or shows a low voltage error in the logs, you need a more powerful BEC. Using Rescue is the most demanding thing your heli can do and will put your servos and bec to the test!

Ok thanks guys. I have done as you have suggested and all seems ok. My other question is we are checking to make sure it gives positive pitch so we are assuming for example if the copter is heading nose down toward the ground that when I activate rescue that it will move the swash correctly to first level the copter then add pitch to move it away from the ground. So is there a way to test this or seeing how we tested for positive pitch that this should be ok?

my pitch did go negative, so i changed the value into negative and i works perfect.
is it correct to change that value also to negative for stabilisation mode?

yes, for the bailout you can set negative pitch if needed.
For stabilisation it does not matter as you are controlling collective pitch.
