The --Do not power up the unit yet-- instructions in wizard

On step 1/10 in the Wizard there are instructions that say Do not power up the unit yet. But for our computers to connect to the Spirit and begin the Wizard process don't we need to power it up? I don't understand how we can begin the Wizard process without powering up the unit. The instructions do say that USB connection cannot be used for power.

I thought maybe you can start up the Spirit Settings software on the computer without connecting the unit at all... it would ask if I want to go into Demo mode. I hit "No", but then the Wizard button is grayed out and unavailable.

So what is the proper or recommended way to actually start the wizard? I honestly have just powered up the unit from the beginning, even though it says I shouldn't.

It says that because it's the receiver page, so the manual wants to establish which receiver type is going to be used so that if you need to put in a bind plug you do so before powering it up so it goes into the correct bind mode.

Oh. So “unit” refers to the receiver.

That seems clear now since it’s the receiver page. But I’ve never heard the term “unit” used for a receiver, just FBL [unit].

Was anyone else confused by this??

It means the flybarless unit - since the power to your receiver and the spirit are the same source. The spirit just needs to know to be in bind mode, depending on what radio system you are using, that's all. (for example if you're binding DSMX, or DSM2 the bind plug goes into a different spot on the spirit, or whatever other system you might be using).

If it means the FBL unit then I’m still confused. Why does it say to not connect power yet if we have to connect power to begin the wizard?

As far as I recall it tells you to disconnect power from the unit after you set the receiver type so that you could set the correct bind mode and then bind the receiver.

It's been a long time since I've had to do that though so I don't remember.

It says to not power up the Spirit unit which is definitively not needed to start up the Setup wizard.

The unit does not mean USB interface. The interface is needed to have a Device (which is actually required) but Spirit unit can be disconnected until you will click at the Connect in the Setup wizard.
