Redundant Receiver Options?

After totally falling in love with the Spirit 2 on my TDSF, I've been kicking around the idea of installing a GT in another all carbon 800 class heli. As I'm pondering options for redundant receivers (Spektrum or FrySky) that work with the Spirit, I started to realize that either I've really confused myself or, there arent as many options as I thought. I'd love some advice if anyone had any to share.
I'm looking at Spektrum and FrySky as these are what I have currently. On my TDSF, I'd running a single SPM4651T using the Spirit SRXL2 adapter cable (PPM to 4-pin JST). It works just fine. I learned in a previous post that the 3-pin JSDT sat ports on either side of the Spirit2 dont support SRXL2. With that in mind, I don't there's a way to connect a second SRXL2 satellite directly to the Spirit2. Am I correct?
I thought about using an SPM8020T receiver with a SPM4651T Satellite for the redundancy but I "think" I understand that the PPM port1 and the single SRXL2 port are connected internally which means I cant connect the SPM8020T to the Spirit2 via SRXL2 and have a SPM4651T connected in the SPM8020T at the same time. If (and this is a big if) I'm correct about this too, then my only option to connect a redundant Spektrum receiver to the Spirit is to do so by connecting the SPM8020T (or similar) via PPM (no telemetry).
On the FrSky side, I was thinking about using a couple of R-XSR's as the manual suggests that there is a master-slave redundancy feature. I was hoping to find some examples of folks using this arrangements or at least some pre-made cables for this suggesting that this all works but no luck. Also the added complexity of an S-bus inverter makes this seem like a complicated solution.
Is there any word as to when/if the Spirit Units will support SRXL2 on the jst ports?
