Redundant Receiver Options?

After totally falling in love with the Spirit 2 on my TDSF, I've been kicking around the idea of installing a GT in another all carbon 800 class heli. As I'm pondering options for redundant receivers (Spektrum or FrySky) that work with the Spirit, I started to realize that either I've really confused myself or, there arent as many options as I thought. I'd love some advice if anyone had any to share.

I'm looking at Spektrum and FrySky as these are what I have currently. On my TDSF, I'd running a single SPM4651T using the Spirit SRXL2 adapter cable (PPM to 4-pin JST). It works just fine. I learned in a previous post that the 3-pin JSDT sat ports on either side of the Spirit2 dont support SRXL2. With that in mind, I don't there's a way to connect a second SRXL2 satellite directly to the Spirit2. Am I correct?

I thought about using an SPM8020T receiver with a SPM4651T Satellite for the redundancy but I "think" I understand that the PPM port1 and the single SRXL2 port are connected internally which means I cant connect the SPM8020T to the Spirit2 via SRXL2 and have a SPM4651T connected in the SPM8020T at the same time. If (and this is a big if) I'm correct about this too, then my only option to connect a redundant Spektrum receiver to the Spirit is to do so by connecting the SPM8020T (or similar) via PPM (no telemetry).

On the FrSky side, I was thinking about using a couple of R-XSR's as the manual suggests that there is a master-slave redundancy feature. I was hoping to find some examples of folks using this arrangements or at least some pre-made cables for this suggesting that this all works but no luck. Also the added complexity of an S-bus inverter makes this seem like a complicated solution.

Is there any word as to when/if the Spirit Units will support SRXL2 on the jst ports?

I am on Jeti now, but when using Spektrum i used a 6610T plus the 4651t. If you use this combo you have to use port 1 on the 6610t and not SRXL2 port as in the manual..This worked very well. Check out post about using SRXL2 sats in the sat port. Tomas has new firmware coming out soon for this...

Thank you for the reply. I saw the AR6610T wiring example in the Spirit SRXL documentation. It shows connecting Port 1 of the AR6610T to the Spirit via the Spirit SRXL2 cable. Did you then plug a SPM4651T into the SRXL2 port of the AR6610T? it worked? My understanding is that these two ports are connected internally within the AR6610T. I could be very wrong about that though!

The picture in the manual and text tells/shows wire to go into Bind/Data/SRXL2 port which is connected with the SRXL2 sat port so you have to use port 1 on the 6610t if you want to plug a 4651tT into this....

Hello Eric,
there is an update to the functionallity of the 3-pin JST-Connectors - In an other thread
was found that an additional SRXL2 receiver on sat1 or sat2 would not work, but it now looks like the whole thing was a timing problem and therefore the connected additional SRXL2 satellites were not recognized - there should be a firmware update soon, then it should work, Tomas can say more about it ..

Look for info in that thread:

Best Regards

Hi Metthias! Happy New Year!

Thank you! The new firmware mentioned in that thread seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. If there is a need for additional testers, I'd be happy to help!

Thanks Metthias!

Hi Eric !
I wish you a Happy New Year too !

If you want to test the firmware can you please write this in the other thread, then Tomas see's it that there are now 4 people who want to test the firmwareupdate, because in this thread Tomas offered it to everyone who is interested in - I signed up for testing it because I am spektrum user too !
So far there is no information about the new firmware - I hope we will get it soon...

Many Greetings
Matthias
