I am thinking about getting a Hobbywing 150 Platinum V5 esc and Spirit GT FBL for an upcoming helicopter project. Does this esc have full telemetry functionality with Spirit FBL’s?
Thanks!
Hobbywing 150 Platinum V5 ESC
I don’t think the HW150 v5 “FunFly” series have any telemetry capability at all. It may not even have an RPM output either. That ESC was meant for airplane use… however, a good FBL governor can run it (you may need the phase sensor to get RPM). I would recommend looking on HeliFreak for posts from AtomicSkull regarding the Hobbywing v5 FunFly units. Their main attraction is the low cost, but there’s a bit of more work to get them working well in a helicopter application.
The programming device is a push button LED card… it does not use the PC adapter/programming box. I don’t know if firmware can even be changed, unless done at the factory.

I was referring to the Hobbywing 150 Platinum Pro v5, not the Fun Fly series.
Gotcha. That’s a new one for me. Looks promising and concerning at the same time… VBC integration/telemetry as a native setup; we know the V4 units with VBC firmware doesn’t work with Spirit, so it’s possible that this v5 will not work as well.
If I had a 550 size heli, I’d definitely try it.
We’ll look out for someone who gives it a go.
Looks like MSH had a recent update to allow telemetry with the v5 series. Maybe Jeti and Spirit will get an update soon.

Hobbywing 150A v5 works with Spirit GT!
There is an issue with used capacity, which is already recognized and will be fixed with next update.

I am using a Hobbywing 150 Platinum V5 esc and Spirit GT FBL on a Goblin 580 Raw build. Full telemetry works perfectly with a Graupner Tx and Rx.Harleyflyer1000 wrote:I am thinking about getting a Hobbywing 150 Platinum V5 esc and Spirit GT FBL for an upcoming helicopter project. That is great news! The helicopter project that I’m thinking about is the Goblin 580 Raw. Perfect and thank you!I am using a Hobbywing 150 Platinum V5 esc and Spirit GT FBL on a Goblin 580 Raw build. Full telemetry works perfectly with a Graupner Tx and Rx.
Great choice -this is my first RC helicopter build, I've only flown fixed wing aircraft up until now. A couple of other members at the club where I fly have Goblin 580s, one with a Spirit flybarless unit . I'm just in the process of mounting the Spirit GT and Rx in my build at the moment. I'll post some photos when done for anyone who's interested.Harleyflyer1000 wrote:That is great news! The helicopter project that I’m thinking about is the Goblin 580 Raw. HobbyWing Platinum V4 and V5 ESC series are considered good value ESCs, but they are not known for telemetry accuracy or repeatability.
